Washington Township High School Bands

The award-winning Washington Township High School Marching Band is a Co-Curricular/Extra Curricular Ensemble available for Grades 8-12. 

• The Marching Band performs in Competitions and during Football Games for the Community. 
• The members of the Marching Band are Woodwind Instruments, Brass Instruments, and Percussion Instruments.
• Marching Drums are called the Battery and Non-Marching Drums are called the Front Ensemble.   
• The Color Guard works complimentary with the Marching Band and provides the color to the band’s music. 
• The Marching Band Color Guard includes Flags, Rifles, Sabers and Dance. 
• The Director of the Marching Band is Mr. Calvin Spencer and the Assistant Director of Marching Band is Mrs. Niki Williams-Spencer. 

The Indoor Color Guard is a Branch of the Marching Band. Our Indoor Color Guard is an Extra Curricular Ensemble that performs in competitions. 

• The Indoor Season starts in November and concludes at the end of April. 
• The members of the  
  Color Guard will learn the use the following equipment: Flags, Rifles, Sabers, as well as Dance.
• The Director of the Indoor Color Guard is Mrs. Niki Williams-Spencer. 

The Wind Ensemble is the top-level Concert Band in the High School. 

• Membership is by audition and can include 9th – 12th Grade Students. 
• The Wind Ensemble studies various styles of concert repertoire and performs musical works at the upper High School to Collegiate Level. 
• The Wind Ensemble holds multiple performances throughout the year and is an Honors Level Course. 
• The Director of the Wind Ensemble is Mr. Calvin Spencer. 

The Symphonic Band is the second level Concert Band in the High School. 

• Membership is by audition and can include 9th – 12th Grade Students no matter what their level of experience. 
• The Symphonic Band also studies various styles of concert repertoire and continue to learn various technical and music skills that will help them move forward in their music education journey. 
• The Symphonic Band holds multiple performances throughout the year and performs Medium Level High School Music. 
• The Director of the Symphonic Band is Mr. Calvin Spencer. 

The Jazz Ensemble is the top Jazz Band in the High School. 

• Membership is by audition and can include 9th – 12th Grade Students no matter what their level of experience. 
• The Jazz Ensemble studies various styles of Jazz repertoire to include different styles of Jazz such as Swing, Bebop, Funk, Latin to name a few. 
• The Jazz Ensemble Members will learn various technical and music skills that will help them move forward in their music education journey in the realm of Jazz. 
• The Jazz Ensemble holds multiple performances during the 2nd half of the school year and performs Medium High School Level to Coll Music. 
• The Director of the Symphonic Band is Mr. Calvin Spencer. 

The Pep Band is an Spinoff of the Marching Band. 

• This ensemble is a Extra Curricular Ensemble that performs for Basketball Games, different schools and community events where we do not take the entire Marching Band. 
• The members of the Pep Band are Woodwind Instruments, Brass Instruments, Percussion Instruments (Battery- Snare Drum, Tenor Drums and Bass Drums). 
• The Director of the Pep Band is Mr. Calvin Spencer.

Chamber Ensembles are small group ensembles that perform at different events at the High School and throughout the community.  

• They range from Duets, to Trio’s  to Jazz Combo’s.

Honors Bands are a variety of different Band Ensembles that are offered by outside organizations that are auditioned based. 

• Students that are in good standing with their Band Programs are encouraged to audition for this special bands to earn different musical experiences outside of Washington Township.
